What Is an Open Air Photo Booth?

An open air photo booth is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of an enclosed box you step inside, it is an open setup with a professional camera, studio lighting, and a backdrop. Guests stand in front of it and pose, alone or in groups, with as many people as can fit in the shot.

That last part matters. Traditional enclosed booths fit maybe three people. Open air setups regularly fit ten or more. At a wedding reception or corporate mixer, that is the difference between two friends squeezing in awkwardly and the whole table jumping in together.

The other reason open air won is that it looks better. A DSLR camera with proper lighting produces images closer to what a professional photographer would shoot. Enclosed booths use small built in cameras and produce lower resolution photos. Open air, done right, is genuinely gallery worthy.

How Afterlight's Open Air Booth Works

Every booking includes the booth, a professional attendant, designed photo templates, unlimited sessions during your event, and a digital gallery.

The setup is quick. Our attendant arrives with enough time to be fully set up before your booking starts, tests everything, and stays for the entire booking window. Guests walk up, choose a session type on the touch screen, pose, and get their photos in seconds. Every image is added to your digital gallery, which is available to you right away.

No hidden fees. No surprise add ons. The price you see includes setup, attendant time, and the digital gallery. Template personalization is included from the Classic tier up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does open air photo booth actually mean?

It means an open setup with a professional camera, studio lighting, and a backdrop, instead of an enclosed box you step inside. Guests pose in front of it, alone or in large groups, and the open format fits far more people per shot.

How much space does the booth need?

About 8 feet by 8 feet, plus room for guests to line up. We work in most reception venues and event spaces.

Do you need power?

Yes, a standard outlet within 25 feet of the setup. If your venue's power is limited, we can bring extension cords.

How many guests can fit in one photo?

Comfortably eight to twelve. We have fit larger groups for the right shot.

What if my event is outdoors?

We can set up outdoors as long as we have shade or a covered area. Direct sunlight and sensitive equipment do not mix. Let us know when booking and we will plan around it.

Can we customize the template?

Yes. Personalized template design is included from the Classic tier up, matched to your event. On the Social tier we use professionally designed standard templates with your names and copy.

What if guests want printed photos?

Prints are included on Classic and Reserve. Prints are produced on site with the attendant present. Social is digital gallery only, though prints can be added.
